Born in Berlin, Germany. Entered West German films in 1957, beginning as a director, but then becoming a writer and producer. Early in his career, he worked in short films, but then moved into features (as a director) in the mid-1980s. Recent directing credits include MAJESTÄT BRAUCHEN SONNE (2000) and BRAVO BOLERO!
