Born Boris Shifrin in Buenos Aires, educated at the Paris Conservatoire. Former pianist with the Dizzy Gillespie band who entered film in 1964 and went on to score a number of fine, often action-oriented productions, including THE CINCINNATI KID (1965), COOL HAND LUKE (1967), BULLITT (1968). Schifrin also wrote the infectious theme music for the TV series, "Mission: Impossible." He has composed a large number of concert works for chamber ensembles and orchestras. He has almost 200 film and television composing credits, some of which are THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST (1967), CHE! (1969), THX 1138 (1971), ENTER THE DRAGON (1973), THE FOUR MUSKETEERS (1974), BRUBAKER (1980), THE OSTERMAN WEEKEND (1983), THE MEAN SEASON (1985) THE FOURTH PROTOCOL (1987), F/X2 (1991), THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES (1993), RUSH HOUR 1, 2 #3 (1998, 2001 & 2007), MONEY TALKS (1997), SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN (1998), TOM THE CAT (2002), BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE (2003), BIYIK, AFTER THE SUNSET and THE BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY (all 2004), ABOMINABLE (2007), and LOVE AND VIRTUE (2008). He composed the scores for 8 Clint Eastwood films: COOGAN'S BLUFF (1968), KELLY'S HEROES (1970), THE BEGUILED and DIRTY HARRY (both 1971), JOE KIDD (1972), MAGNUM FORCE (1973), SUDDEN IMPACT (1983) and THE DEAD POOL (1988). He received the Film Music Society's career achievement award in 2000.
