Edmond Séchan
(1919 -     )

Born in Montpellier, Hérault, France. Cinematographer who entered French film in 1950. Other notable credits among 50 films and television projects include LE BALLON ROUGE / THE RED BALLOON (1956) and L'HOMME DE RIO / THAT MAN FROM RIO (1964). Working in short films as well as features, he also directed and wrote ...LES BORGNES SONT ROIS / ONE-EYED MEN ARE KINGS (1974), in which a man fakes being blind; and PHOTO-SOUVENIR (1978, TV - FR 3), in which Jean-Claude Carrière plays a surgeon who slowly sinks in a maze of despair: Still pictures, taken by him with a Polaroid camera that he got from one of his hospital patients, start to show confusing images and eerie omissions. Convinced that the "object that freezes time" is trying to communicate, he relentlessly searches to decipher and understand the meaning of that visual language.
