Franco Solinas
(1927 - 1982)

Born in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy. Entered Italian film in 1950. Co-wrote 4 screenplays with Gillo Pontecorvo: LA GRANDE STRADA AZZURRA / THE WIDE BLUE ROAD (1957), KAPÒ (1959), LA BATTAGLIA DE ALGERI / THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS (1965) and QUEIMADA! / BURN! (1969). He also collaborated on ÉTAT DE SIÈGE / STATE OF SIEGE (1973) with Costa-Gavras. In 1986 the Solinas Prize (Premio Solinas) was established to aid in the development of Italian screenplays.
