Born in Lowell, Mass. Production designer who entered American film as art director for BONNIE AND CLYDE (1967). His production design credits include a number of Francis Ford Coppola productions (see below) as well as CANDY (1968), ZABRISKIE POINT and LITTLE BIG MAN (both 1970), THE GODFATHER (1972), THE CONVERSATION (1974), FAREWELL, MY LOVELY (1975), ONE FROM THE HEART and HAMMETT (both 1982), THE OUTSIDERS and RUMBLE FISH (both 1983), PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED (1986), GARDENS OF STONE (1987), NEW YORK STORIES (1989, Segment 2), FINAL ANALYSIS (1992), RISING SUN (1993), JACK (1996), BULWORTH (1998), THE PARENT TRAP (1998), THE NINTH GATE (1999), and CQ and ANGEL EYES (both 2001).

Married to actress Aurore Clément, whom he met on the set of APOCALYPSE NOW. Her part was cut from the original release but restored in APOCALYPSE NOW REDUX (2001).
