Born in San Francisco, CA; her father was a prominent agent at William Morris. Flinty blonde actress who has specialized in spangly, trashy film femmes since her debut in SHOOT OUT (1971). Tyrrell performed similar duties in ANDY WARHOL'S BAD (1971), ANGEL (1984), and John Waters's CRY-BABY (1990). Her roles have ranged from motorchicks to 1950s-style moms in features that are either self-consciously campy -- as in Tyrrell's turn as Midge in BIG TOP PEE-WEE (1988) -- or so delirious that they become camp, like ANGEL. Her TV performances are in a similar vein, including the TV movie WILLOW B: WOMEN IN PRISON (1980) and a recurring role on the covertly romantic cop show, "MacGruder and Loud" (1985).
In 2000, she had both her legs amputated below the knee because of a rare blood disease. For a revealing, entertaining and eye-opening look at "Su-Su"'s life, please see Paul Cullum's article in the November 3 - 9, 2000 issue of L.A. Weekly.
