Born in Brooklyn, NY. Leading lady of the American stage, screen, and television. Raised in Dallas, Texas, she began performing there in high school productions. After training at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse, she started her professional career in the early 60s and has since appeared in many stage productions, on Broadway and on the road. She has also appeared on numerous TV programs and in a number of films and was nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actress for her performance in JACQUELINE SUSANN'S ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH (1975).

Other notable screen credits include MIDNIGHT COWBOY (1969), AIRPORT '77 (1977), CAPRICORN ONE (1978), THE FIRST DEADLY SIN (1980), ZORRO, THE GAY BLADE (1981), SUPERGIRL (1984), TEN LITTLE INDIANS (1989), MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH and LETHAL GAMES (both 1990), LOVE AFFAIR (1994), THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES (1996), SONNY (2002), and THE BOYNTON BEACH BEREAVEMENT CLUB (2005). She frequently appears in made-for-TV movies.
