Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dabbling in film animation from the age of 12, he worked briefly for Disney and UPA in the late 40s, then went to England in 1955. There he took his place among that country's leading animators with his very first film, the 30-minute cartoon THE LITTLE ISLAND. He has since built his own studio and made other successful animations films as well as TV commercials. He also designed the title sequences for feature films of others -- WHAT'S NEW, PUSSYCAT?, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, CASINO ROYALE and THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN, for example. He won his first Oscar® for his feature-length A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1971), originally made for TV. He won another Oscar and a host of other awards for his work on WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT (1988).
Williams wrote and directed ARABIAN KNIGHT (1995), which was originally produced in 1968 as "The Thief and the Cobbler."
