Born in Söderhamn, Sweden; educated at the Academy of Fine Arts, Stockholm and the Dramatic Institute, Stockholm (art direction). Scandinavian art director who designed the later films of Ingmar Bergman, earning an Oscar for FANNY & ALEXANDER (1983). Asp's other notable work includes Andrei Tarkovsky's final film (shot in Sweden), THE SACRIFICE (1986), and Bille August's PELLE THE CONQUEROR (1988), THE HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS (1993), JERUSALEM (1996), SMILLA'S SENSE OF SNOW (1997), HAMILTON and LES MISÉRABLES (both 1998), 10:10 (2000), EN SÅNG FÖR MARTIN and SYNDARE I SOMMARSOL (both 2001), ONDSKAN / EVIL (2003), EIFFELTORNET / EIFFEL TOWER (2004), ZOZO (2005), AM - TEMPELRIDDAREN (2007) and AM - RIKET VID VÄGENS SLUT (2008).
