Born in London, England; studied at London's Central School of Art and Design. Costume designer for British film and television who entered the business with Merchant-Ivory's "Hullabaloo Over Georgie and Bonnie's Pictures" (1978, TV). She collaborated with John Bright on nine films and shared Oscar nominations with him for six of them. Other notable design credits include JANE AUSTEN IN MANHATTAN (1980), A SUMMER STORY and THE DECEIVERS (both 1988), MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON (1990), IMPROMPTU (1991), THE BRIDGE (1992), SWING KIDS (1993), BLACK BEAUTY (1994), JEFFERSON IN PARIS (1995), JANE EYRE (1996), METROLAND (1997), LOLITA (1997, costumes: 1921 sequence), TEA WITH MUSSOLINI (1999), POSSESSION (2002), TIMELINE (2003), ALEXANDER (2004), CASANOVA (2005), THE BLACK DAHLIA and AMAZING GRACE (both 2006), and DEFIANCE and VIVALDI (both 2008).
