Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; educated at the University of Wisconsin. Wrote for TV's "Candid Camera" (1966) and "The Tonight Show" (1966-70) before beginning his highly successful association with Woody Allen. Brickman co-wrote two of Allen's best-loved films, ANNIE HALL (1977) and MANHATTAN (1979), before branching out on his own with the overlooked, cynical comedy SIMON (1980) and the thoughtful anti-nuclear thriller THE MANHATTAN PROJECT (1986).
Other notable writing credits, alone or in collaboration, include SLEEPER (1973, also assoc. producer), LOVESICK (1983, also director), FOR THE BOYS (1991), MANHATTAN MURDER MYSTER (1993) and INTERSECTION (1994). Brickman directed "Sister Mary Explains It All" for television in 2001.
