Born in Los Angeles, CA. Began his career working with such young turks of the American film renaissance as Dennis Hopper, Peter Bogdanovich and Paul Mazursky. Notable editing credits include 2000 YEARS LATER and EASY RIDER (both 1969), THE LAST PICTURE SHOW (1971), STEELYARD BLUES, CINDERELLA LIBERTY (supervising editor) and BLUME IN LOVE (all 1973), THE HINDENBURG (1975), ALEX & THE GYPSY (1976), THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT (1977), THE END, HOOPER and TIME AFTER TIME (all 1979), SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT II (1980), THE CANNONBALL RUN and EXCALIBUR (both 1981), TEMPEST (1982), GOING BERSERK (1983), ROMANCING THE STONE (1984), JO JO DANCER, YOUR LIFE IS CALLING and BIG TROUBLE (both 1986), HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS (1987), CASUAL SEX?, FEDS and TWINS (all 1988), GHOSTBUSTERS II (1989), EYES OF AN ANGEL (also co-producer) and THE BUTCHER'S WIFE (1991), THE BODYGUARD (1992), ROOKIE OF THE YEAR and BOUND BY HONOR (add'l editor) (both 1993), MAJOR LEAGUE II and LITTLE GIANTS (both 1994), THE GLIMMER MAN (1996), and A THOUSAND ACRES (1997, add'l editor).

In the 1960s, he worked in television as a music editor on such series as "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." (1964), "I Spy" (1965) and "The Andy Griffith Show" (1966).

Since 2002, Cambern has been a member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Editors Branch).
