Bob Carmichael

Bob Carmichael, director and cameraman, is a veteran mountain climber, cyclist, skier, surfer and waterman. A life long interest in sports including participating in Division One college athletics led him to pursue a career in sports and action films. His first job was as a staff director/cameraman with NFL Films after which he focused on adventure filmmaking in such sports as surfing, extreme skiing, and mountain climbing.

His film experience entails national commercials, news and adventure documentaries, TV and feature 2nd unit direction and large format special venue films. Carmichael is a recognized authority in extreme mountain related shooting and waterwork. Other areas of specialty include automotive shooting and racing footage. His 70mm film on the Daytona 500 plays in a special theatre at the Daytona Speedway. He has also directed destination commercials for Hawaii, US Virgin Islands and Mexico Tourism.

Carmichael is a noted director for water related projects with experienced gained from surfing films, sailing and jet skis commercials and the 2nd unit direction of the feature Navy SEALs. Bob has also directed several complex training films and commercials for the US Marine Corps involving intensive troop movements and exercises. He is a highly experienced aerial cameraman as well.

He has both an Academy Award® nomination and National Emmy® for his work in film. Bob has recently co-written an extreme action mountain screenplay "Fall Line." He has also recently directed a thirty-minute Internet narrative film entitled WILDERNESS WITHIN for Ninth House Network. His company Denali Productions, Inc. has produced many of his assignments.

Carmichael's feature credits are mostly as second unit director or d.p.; they include THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984, add'l camera), STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER (1989), NAVY SEALS and THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER (both 1990), QUEENS LOGIC (1991), THE FIRST WIVES CLUB (1996), and LOVE DON'T COST A THING (2003).
