Johnny Colla
(1952 -     )
Biography from HLN Today

Born John Victor Colla in Sacramento, CA and raised in Suisun City, CA. He's an old friend of Huey Lewis's - he played in Clover's rival group Soundhole in the early part of the 1970's. In 1976 he went to LA to take up a job with Sly Stone, but in the two years that followed Sly wasn't too active, which left Johnny not doing much - so when Huey started forming a band in the Bay Area, Johnny happily agreed to join.

As well as playing sax and guitar (a Fender Stratocaster) and writing songs with the News, he is their main vocal arranger - an example of his work can be heard in their song 'Bad is Bad' - Huey originally wrote it as a fast shuffle, but Johnny had a different idea and came up with the vocal arrangement that we hear today. Outside the band his interests include baseball and golf, and his secret ambition is to own a restaurant. His hometown is Ross, California, just North of San Quentin. Johnny is married with 2 children

When he is not working hard with The News, Johnny is the front man is his own band, Johnny Colla and the Lucky Devils. In this band, he is the lead singer and plays guitar (sorry saxophone fans!). He and the Lucky Devils have several of their own songs and are currently seeking a record deal. They sometimes perform in clubs near the San Francisco area.
