Born Irene Brouillet in Republic, Washington. Entered Hollywood film as a gown designer at RKO in the late 1930s and rolled up over 175 film credits. She worked full-time through the 1960s, and then cut back to occasional projects.

Notable un-nominated credits include gowns for KITTY FOYLE (1940), TOM DICK AND HARRY (1941), CAT PEOPLE (1942), HITLER'S CHILDREN, THIS LAND IS MINE and MR. LUCKY (all 1943), NONE BUT THE LONELY HEART (1944), BACK TO BATAAN and JOHNNY ANGEL (both 1945), and costumes for THE HOUSE ON TELEGRAPH HILL (1951), A MAN CALLED PETER (1955), THE KING AND FOUR QUEENS (1956), THE THREE FACES OF EVE and APRIL LOVE (both 1957), THE PLEASURE SEEKERS 91964), THE SAND PEBBLES (1966), THE LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE and THE KILLING OF SISTER GEORGE (both 1968), THE GREAT SCOUT & CATHOUSE THURSDAY (1976), and SOGGY BOTTOM, USA (1980). Her last film was BODY HEAT (1991).
