Born in New York City; educated at Radcliffe College, Cambridge MA. Capable supporting actress and occasional leading lady, in films since the 1970s, and most effective as aloof, no-nonsense, brainy types. Nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar® for PLACES IN THE HEART (1984), Crouse was perfect as the tense psychiatrist involved in a labyrinthine con game in HOUSE OF GAMES (1987), which gave her a rare leading role; it was scripted and directed by her then-husband, David Mamet (married 1977-1990).

BROOKS (2007). Most recently, she has appeared in series television on such shows as "Frazier", "Alias", "Arli$$", "Dragnet", "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "Law & Order" and "Criminal Minds". Daughter of playwright Russell Crouse (Life With Father, State of the Union, et al.). She was named after his writing and producing partner, Howard Lindsay, and her full name -- Lindsay Ann Crouse -- is a pun on that partnership.
