Ernest Day
(1927 - 2006)

Cinematographer who entered British film as a camera operator in the mid-1950s. Early credits (as camera operator) include EXODUS (1960), THE ROMAN SPRING OF MRS. STONE (1961), LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962), LORD JIM and DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (both 1965), YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE and THE COMEDIANS (both 1967), THE SHOES OF THE FISHERMAN (1968), RYAN'S DAUGHTER (1970), NICHOLAS AND ALEXANDRA and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (both 1971), JUGGERNAUT (1974), THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN (1976). He became a director of photography in 1968, and his cinematography credits include REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER (1978), SPHINX (1981), SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE (1987) and "Incident in a Small Town" (1994, TV). He was 2nd unit director for THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (1977), SHALIMAR (1978) and MOONRAKER (1979), and he tried his hand at directing with GREEN ICE (1981) and WALTZ ACROSS TEXAS (1982).

His brother is director Robert Day (b. 1922).
