Visual and optical effects artist and supervisor who entered British film in the mid-1950s. He worked on all the "James Bond" films from DR. NO (1962) to THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN (1974). Other notable credits include THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES (1965), CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG (1968), THE OMEN (1976), SUPERMAN (1978), SATURN 3 and SUPERMAN II (both 1980), CLASH OF THE TITANS, THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER, DRAGONSLAYER and OUTLAND (all 1981), MONTY PYTHON'S THE MEANING OF LIFE and SUPERMAN III (both 1983), SUPERGIRL (1984), SANTA CLAUS (1985), LABYRINTH (1986), WHITE HUNTER, BLACK HEART and AIR AMERICA (both 1990), ORPHANS (1997), the "Hornblower" series of TV movies (1998 - 2001), and LIGHTHOUSE (2000).
His son Peter Field works as a camera operator in film and television, and his son Tim Field is a producer / executive producer of visual and miniature effects.
