Born in Philadelphia, PA. American playwright who adapted his works A Soldier's Story (Pulitzer Prize) and Zooman and the Sign to the screen. He has written other works for television: "The Sky Is Gray" (1980), "A Gathering of Old Men" (1987), "The Wall" (1998, segment: "The Badge"), and "Love Songs" (1999, segments: "A Love Song for Champ", "A Love Song for Jean and Ellis" and "A Love Song for Dad"; also producer).
