Born in University City, MO; educated at USC Film School. Gale began a productive and highly profitable collaboration with fellow USC graduate Robert Zemeckis, at first for TV, then on feature films, with the latter usually directing and Gale writing an co-producing. Their first feature was I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND (1978), follwed by 1941 (1979) and USED CARS (1980), TRESPASS (1992) and BORDELLO OF BLOOD (1996). The partnership reached its zenith with the highly successful series of BACK TO THE FUTURE films (1985, 1989 and 1990). Other notable writing credits include MR. PAYBACK: AN INTERACTIVE MOVIE (1995, also director) and episodes of the TV series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", "Amazing Stories", "Back to the Future", and "Tales from the Crypt". Gale wrote, produced and directed INTERSTATE 60 (2002).
