Born in Seattle, WA. American writer and producer who entered film in the mid-1950s. Notable credits, alone or in collaboration, include THE YOUNG GUNS (1956), I BURY THE LIVING (1958, also producer), FACE OF FIRE (1959, also producer), THE LOVE DOCTORS (1970 also producer), THE DOBERMAN GANG (1972), LITTLE CIGARS (1973), THE DEER HUNTER (1978) and MILENA (1991).

Garfinkle helped co-create "Collaborator," one of the first computer software programs for scriptwriters.
