Born in Birmingham, West Midlands, England. Outstanding artist whose eclectic and elaborate designs for Terry Gilliam's BRAZIL (1985) earned him an Oscar nomination and a British Academy Award. His other notable (non-nominated) credits include (as art director) TIME BANDITS (1981), THE MISSIONARY (1982) and BRIMSTONE AND TREACLE (1982); (as production designer) THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987), MISERY (1990), BEING HUMAN (1993), CUTTHROAT ISLAND (1995), DANGEROUS BEAUTY (1998), LOST IN SPACE (1998), ENTRAPMENT (1999), ROLLERBALL (2002), ELLA ENCHANTED and THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS (both 2004), and BASIC INSTINCT 2 (2006).
