Born in Littleton, Colorado. Began scoring for American television in the early 1960s ("The Virginian," "Gidget," "The Wild Wild West" and "The Girl from U.N.C.L.E."). Has contributed scores to films by directors including Mike Nichols, Warren Beatty and (nine times) Sydney Pollack. Grusin's jazz-fusion style has highlighted several TV shows ("Good Times," "St. Elsewhere") and he has arranged albums by artists including Quincy Jones and Paul Simon. Grusin founded his own record label (GRP) with partner Larry Rosen in 1983.
