Peter Handford
(1919 - 2007)

Sound recordist and production sound mixer who entered British film in 1949 with Hitchcock's UNDER CAPRICORN. Other notable (non-nominated) credits include NIGHT AND THE CITY, ODETTE and INTO THE BLUE (all 1950), PARIS and THE LADY WITH THE LAMP (both 1951), DERBY DAY, GIFT HORSE and TRENT'S LAST CASE (all 1952), CURTAIN UP and THE BEGGAR'S OPERA (both 1953), FRONT PAGE STORY (1954), SUMMERTIME (1955), MY TEENAGE DAUGHER and THREE MEN IN A BOAT (both 1956), SAINT JOAN (1957), ROOM AT THE TOP (1959), SONS AND LOVERS and THE ENTERTAINER (both 1960), MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (1961), TOM JONES (1963), DARLING (1965), THE GO-BETWEEN (1970), FRENZY (1972), MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (1974), THE LADY VANISHES (1979), HOPE AND GLORY (1987), DANGEROUS LIAISONS (1988), WHITE HUNTER, BLACK HEART and his last film, HAVANA (both 1990).

The doyen of railway sound recordists, he documented in sound the last days of steam on British railways.
