Born in Phoenix, AZ. Working with Tommy Boyce, Hart co-wrote several hit tunes: "Lazy Elsie Molly" for Chubby Checker, "Come A Little Bit Closer" for Jay and the Americans, "Last Train to Clarksville" (and many others) for The Monkees, among others. As The Monkees began to exert more creative control over their own music, Boyce & Hart decided to try their hand at a recording career in their own right. In 1967 and 1968 they put three songs in the Top 40: "Out & About," the top ten hit "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight," and "Alice Long (You're Still My Favorite Girlfriend)." Other notable songs include "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone), "Days of Our Lives Theme" and "Hurts So Bad".
The duo created songs for several cartoon shows such as "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You" and "Josie and The Pussycats." Boyce & Hart music can be found in the movies, as well, including such recent flicks as MESSENGERS (2004) and THE THIRD WISH (2005). Hart also worked individually, doing tunes for movies such as TENDER MERCIES and THE UNHOLY ROLLERS. During the 1980s Hart wrote and produced for both LaToya Jackson and New Edition.
