Up (1984)
Cinematographer whose specialty is "extreme" photography. Other notable credits include (as cinematographer) EQUINOX (1970), THE ENDLESS SUMMER 2 (1994, also camera operator), ZION CANYON: TREASURE OF THE GODS (1996) and AMAZON (1997). He was climbing advisor and mountain sequence photographer for THE EIGER SANCTION (1975), and he directed SOLO (1972) and TO THE LIMIT (1989), and he worked as a visual technician on THE RIVER WILD (1994).

In 1994, Hoover was the sole survivor of a heli-skiing crash in Nevada that killed his wife, sound recordist and 2nd unit director Beverly Johnson, Disney president Frank G. Wells, and 3 others. Hoover and Johnson's estate sued Bell, maker of the 206B3 Jet Ranger the party was riding in, claiming the crash was caused by a design defect in the helicopter. The case was settled for an undisclosed sum.
