Born in London, England. Prolific director of TV commercials and short films who graduated to features in 1977 and has made his mark with lush period productions, notably CHARIOTS OF FIRE (1981). Other notable credits include THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE (1967, also writer), FANGIO - UNA VILA A 300 ALL'ORA (also 1981), GREYSTOKE: THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, LORD OF THE APES (1984, also producer), REVOLUTION (1985), LOST ANGELS (1989), LUMIÈRE AND COMPANY (1995), MY LIFE SO FAR (1999) and I DREAMED OF AFRICA (2000).  Nominated for Directing 1981: CHARIOTS OF FIRE 1 nomination
