Born in New Rochelle, NY; educated at U. of Pennsylvania (Wharton School of Finance). A former production executive with Paramount and Columbia, he became an independent producer, boasting a number of major motion pictures among his credits. In 1983 he made an adequate first attempt at directing with WITHOUT A TRACE, which he also produced. From 1984 he worked mainly in collaboration with producer Sherry Lansing. In the 1990s, he was president/COO of Paramount Communications, again working with Lansing, who became chairman.
Other notable (non-nominated) producing credits include GOODBYE, COLUMBUS (1969), THE BAD NEWS BEARS (1976), TAPS (1981), THE ACCUSED (1988), BLACK RAIN (1989), SCHOOL TIES (1992), MADELINE (1998, exec. producer), I DREAMED OF AFRICA (2000) and THE FOUR FEATHERS (2002).
