Born in McKeesport, PA. Her life of activism began along with her college career when she became the first freshman and first female editor of The South End newspaper at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.

She wrote a piece on homeless children in Seattle, which inspired her Academy Award®-nominated documentary, STREETWISE.

Until her death from lung cancer in 2005, McCall kept a 1970 letter written by then FBI director J. Edgar Hoover that listed her as a threat to national security.
