Born in Pennsylvania, USA. With husband Charles Shyer (from whom she separated in 1999), she has enjoyed great popular success with a series of smart contemporary comedies. When she met Shyer, she was working as a story editor for producer Ray Stark and had just made a connection with fellow American University alumna Goldie Hawn. Together with Harvey Miller they wrote PRIVATE BENJAMIN (1980) as a vehicle for Hawn; it earned them an Oscar® nomination, and its boxoffice success enabled them to make a deal to write, direct, and produce IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES (1984), which featured Ryan O'Neal as a young man who, like Shyer, is a diehard old-movie buff who winds up making films himself. They continued to share writing chores, with Shyer directing and Meyers producing BABY BOOM (1987, and its short-lived TV series spinoff), FATHER OF THE BRIDE (1991), I LOVE TROUBLE (1994), and a FATHER OF THE BIRDE sequel (1995). They also wrote but did not direct or produce ONCE UPON A CRIME... (1992).
Meyers' other notable credits include PROTOCOL (1984, writer), I LOVE TROUBLE (1994, writer & producer), THE PARENT TRAP (1998, writer & director), WHAT WOMEN WANT (2000, producer & director), THE AFFAIR OF THE NECKLACE (2001, exec. producer), SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE (2003: writer, producer & director), and THE HOLIDAY (2006: writer, producer & director).
