Was a student of history and law at UC Berkeley. With the exception of RETURN WITH HONOR (1998), BIRD BY BIRD WITH ANNIE (1999) and WRESTLING WITH ANGELS: PLAYWRIGHT TONY KUSHNER (2006), all her documentaries have been nominated for Academy Awards. She is the first Governor of the newly-created Documentary Branch on the Academy Board of Governors (2001-07).
