Dudley Moore
(1935 - 2002)
Biography from several sources

Born in Dagenham, Essex, England; educated at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Magdalen College, Oxford. Diminutive (5'2"), quick-witted performer who teamed up with fellow Oxbridge graduates Peter Cook, Jonathan Miller and Alan Bennett to form the comedy troupe Beyond the Fringe, an early 1960s precursor to the "Monty Python" group. Moore and "Fringe" colleague Peter Cook went on to form their own two-man act, enjoying popular success with their stage shows and somewhat ribald albums and making their first movie appearances in THE WRONG BOX (1966), which was quickly followed by the cult hit BEDAZZELED (1967) with Moore playing Stanley Moon and Cook playing George Spiggot, a.k.a. The Devil. Subsequent films included MONTE CARLO OR BUST and THE BED SITTING ROOM (both 1969), ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND (1972), FOUL PLAY and THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES (both 1978), 10 and DEREK AND CLIVE GET THE HORN (both 1979), and WHOLLY MOSES! (1980).

Moore became an unlikely Hollywood star with his performance in ARTHUR (1981) and went on to appear in a string of saccharine comedies, including SIX WEEKS (1982), LOVESICK and ROMANTIC COMEDY (both 1983), UNFAITHFULLY YOURS, BEST DEFENSE and MICKI + MAUDE (all 1984), SANTA CLAUS (1985), LIKE FATHER LIKE SON (1987), ARTHUR 2: ON THE ROCKS (1988), CRAZY PEOPLE (1990), and BLAME IT ON THE BELLBOY (1992). He starred in the 1993 TV series "Dudley" and worked mainly in television and voice work until his death in 2002.

A proficient pianist, he recorded several albums of light jazz and appeared in concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He composed the scores for his films BEDAZZLED (1967), 30 IS A DANGEROUS AGE, CYNTHIA, (1968), STAIRCASE (1969), THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES (1978) and SIX WEEKS (1982).

Divorced from actresses Suzy Kendall and Tuesday Weld. Moore was made a Commander of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in June, 2001. He died of a rare brain disorder at the age of 66.
