Prince
(1958 -     )
Biography from Baseline's Encyclopedia of Film

Born Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis, MN. Dynamic, innovative composer and performer whose bestselling albums blend rock, jazz, funk and rap and have confirmed him as one of the most influential forces in contemporary popular music. Prince's forays into film have been somewhat less fortunate; he made his screen acting debut in the semi-autobiographical PURPLE RAIN (1984) and went on to direct, star in and score three highly stylized, narcissistic flops, UNDER THE CHERRY MOON (1986), SIGN O' THE TIMES (1987) and GRAFFITI BRIDGE (1990). He has contributed songs to the soundtracks of PROTOCOL (1984 - "I Feel For You"), BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY (1988), BATMAN (1989), SHOWGIRLS (1995 - "Pipopgodzaippa" & "319"), GIRL 6 (1996), STRIPTEASE (also 1996 - "If I Was Your Girlfriend") and BAMBOOZLED (2000). As a composer, his scoring credits include PURPLE RAIN (1984) and THE LAKE HOUSE (2006).

In 1993, he changed his name to "0(+>" (pronounced in English as "Androgeny"), a symbol that originated in ancient Europe. He dropped the name in May, 2000, after his record contract expired.
