Born in Fall River, MA; attended Harvard University. Composer and songwriter who entered American television with the "Sesame Street" TV series in 1969. Charles Kuralt once said, "Joe Raposo taught America's children how to sing." His hit songs include "Bein' Green," "Sing" and "America Is." Other notable credits include THE POSSESSION OF JOEL DELANEY and SAVAGES (both 1972), NASHVILLE (1975), RAGGEDY ANN & ANDY: A MUSICAL ADVENTURE (1977), THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER (1981) and the television series "The Electric Company," "Ivan the Terrible" and "Three's Company" and several Sesame Street made-for-TV movies.
Raposo died of lymphoma three days before his 52nd birthday.
