Born in Biloxi, MS; educated at RADA, London, and AADA, New York. Talented, stage-trained lead who made an auspicious feature debut in the title role of KING OF THE GYPSIES (1978). Roberts has given generally fine performances in films of uneven quality; he was memorable in RAGGEDY MAN (1981), opposite Sissy Spacek, THE COCA-COLA KID (1985), directed by Dusan Makavejev, and RUNAWAY TRAIN (1985), co-starring Jon Voight and directed by Andrei Konchalovsky. Brother of actresses Julia Roberts (b. 1967) and Lisa Roberts Gillan (b. 1965) and son of Walter Roberts, who founded the Atlanta Actors and Writers Workshop in 1963.
