Born in Lodz, Poland. Writer, director, cinematographer and animator whose other credits include TANCZACY JASTRZAB / THE DANCING HAWK (1977), ANGST (1983), STEPS and IMAGINE (both 1987), MÉLIÈS 88: LE DUEL (1988, TV), KAFKA (1992).

Rybczynski moved to the US with his wife Wanda and son shortly after winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1983. Since 1993, Rbyczynski has been a professor of experimental film at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, Germany. From 1994 to 1997 he worked in Berlin devloping new technology for CFB-CENTRUM. Later on, he lived and worked in Cologne, continuing his research and being a Professor of Experimental Film in Cologne's Academy of Media Arts. Since September 2001 Rybczynski has been back in Los Angeles, where he works as a Research Engineer in Ultimatte Company, the world's recognized leader in blue/green screen compositing technology for film and TV. He's preparing himself to start a new film production soon.
