Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Paris; educated at the Paris Conservatoire. Versatile, prolific composer who has written the music for almost 200 films and telvision movies since 1969, when he scored his first feature, Claude Sautet's THE THINGS OF LIFE. Sarde has enjoyed multi-film associations with Robert Bresson, Bertrand Tavernier and Roman Polanski. In 1976 he earned a double César® (the French Oscar®) for his work on Tavernier's THE JUDGE AND THE ASSASSIN and André Téchiné's BAROCCO.
Other notable scoring credits include THE TRAIN (1973), MADAME ROSA (1977), LES AILES DE LA COLOMBE / THE WINGS OF THE DOVE, COUP DE TORCHON / CLEAN SLATE, LA GUERRE DU FEU / QUEST FOR FIRE and GHOST STORY (all 1981), JOSHUA THEN AND NOW (1985), THE MANHATTAN PROJECT and PIRATES (both 1986), LES INNOCENTS (1987), L'OURS / THE BEAR (1988), MUSIC BOX (1989), LORD OF THE FLIES (1990), and EVE OF DESTRUCTION (1991).
