John Seale

Biography from Baseline's Encyclopedia of Film

Born in Warwick, Queensland, Australia. Worked as camera operator to Russell Boyd on a number of Peter Weir films before graduating to cinematographer in 1980. Seale has shot all of Weir's American features, notably WITNESS (1985), with its memorable compositions of both the Philadelphia train station and the rolling Pennsylvania landscape. He has also photographed such handsome, big-budget productions as RAIN MAN (1988) and DEAD POETS SOCIETY (1989).
