Prior to entering the film industry, Seymour had worked as a photographer for Scene magazine with the writer Derek Marlowe and chronicled many of the leading players of the time including Julie Christie, Terence Stamp, Michael Caine, actress and pop artist Pauline Boty and fashion designers Tuffin and Foale.

He entered British film in 1967 as art director for Peter Yates's ROBBERY and became a production designer whose notable credits include ISADORA (1968 - art director), ENTERTAINING MR. SLOANE (1970), GUMSHOE (1971), THEATRE OF BLOOD (1973), S*P*Y*S (1974), ROSEBUD (1975), ALIEN (1979), EUREKA (1983), THE BRIDE (1985), MR. DESTINY (1990), THE THIING CALLED LOVE (1993), GUNMEN (1994), BEVERLY HILLS COP III (also 1994) and STAND-INS (1997).
