Fred Steiner

Born in New York City; educated at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music; son of composer George Steiner, who worked mainly for cartoons. American composer who began in television in the late 1940s to the mid-1950s ("Man Against Crime", 1949-1954, 83 episodes). Most of Steiner's work has been for television series and made-for-TV movies, most notably for 14 episodes of "Hogan's Heroes" (1965-66), 25 episodes of "Star Trek" (1966-69) and the "Perry Mason" series of movies (1989-1993). Notable film composing credits include RUN FOR THE SUN and MAN FROM DEL RIO (both 1956), TIME LIMIT (1957), DELLA (1964), THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD (1965, uncredited), FIRST TO FIGHT and THE ST. VALENTINE'S DAY MASSACRE (uncredited) (both 1967), THE SEA GYPSIES (1978) and THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY & BULLWINKLE (2000 - He and his father composed the music for the original "The Bullwinkle Show" in 1961). He adapted and orchestrated the music for THE COLOR PURPLE (1985).
