Born in Rome, Italy; son of a projectionist at the Lux Film Studio; educated at Duca D'Aosta Technical Photographic Institute, Italian Cinemagraphic Training Center and Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Rome. Modern master of his art who came to prominence for his work on the films of Bernardo Bertolucci, including THE CONFORMIST (1971), LAST TANGO IN PARIS (1973) and THE LAST EMPEROR (1987). Storaro has shot a number of English-language films, including several directed by Francis Ford Coppola (APOCALYPSE NOW, 1979; ONE FROM THE HEART, 1982; TUCKER: THE MAN AND HIS DREAM, 1988; NEW YORK STORIES, 1989 - segment "Life without Zoe").
