Paul Sylbert

Born in Brooklyn, NY; twin brother of production designer Richard Sylbert. Production designer who started out in the art department (BABY DOLL, 1956) and became an art director (THE WRONG MAN, 1956; A FACE IN THE CROWD, 1957; THE TEENAGE MILLIONAIRE, 1962) and television director ("The Defenders," 1961; "The Nurses," 1962).

Sylbert's first production designer credit was WITHOUT EACH OTHER (1962). Other notable (non-nominated) production design credits include THE TIGER MAKES OUT (1967), RIOT (1969), BAD COMPANY (1972), THE DROWNING POOL and ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (both 1975), MIKEY AND NICKY (1976), HARDCORE and KRAMER VS. KRAMER (both 1979), RESURRECTION (1980), WOLFEN and BLOW OUT (both 1981), WITHOUT A TRACE and GORKY PARK (both 1983), THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE and FIRSTBORN (both 1984), THE JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN (1985), ISHTAR, NADINE and THE PICK-UP ARTIST (all 1987), BILOXIE BLUES and FRESH HORSES (both 1988), CAAREER OPPORTUNITIES and RUSH (both 1991), SLIVER (1993), MILK MONEY (1994), FREE WILLY 2: THE ADVENTURE HOME and THE GRASS HARP (both 1995), ROSEWOOD and CONSPIRACY THEORY (both 1997) and TO END ALL WARS (2001).

Sylbert wrote and directed the 1971 feature THE STEAGLE, and he wrote the story for 1981's NIGHTHAWKS.
