Adam Symansky

In his 30 years at the National Film Board, Oscar®-winner Adam Symansky has produced films by some of Canada's most talented documentary directors. His credits include the Academy Award®-winning FLAMENCO AT 5:15 (1983), directed by Cynthia Scott; Peter Wintonick's CINÉMA VÉRITÉ: DEFINING THE MOMENT (1999), winner of several awards including Best Canadian Feature at the Montréal International Festival of New Cinema and New Media; and such acclaimed historical series as "The Valour and the Horror" (1992), "The King Chronicles" (1988) and Part Three of "The Champions" (1986).

Other Symansky productions exploring Canadian history include TOMMY DOUGLAS: KEEPER OF THE FLAME (1986), a biography of the pioneering NDP leader; and TRAITOR OR PATRIOT (2000), filmmaker Jacques Godbout's exploration of the political legacy of his great uncle Adélard Godbout, former premier of Quebec, whose achievements have been largely ignored by Quebec nationalists.

Recent documentaries from Symansky include GIVE ME YOUR SOUL... (2000), a look inside the pornography industry; ALTER EGOS (2004), with Chris Landreth and Ryan Larkin; THE PEACEKEEPERS / LE PRIX DE LA PAIX (2005); and BOMBAY CALLING (2006).
