Francis Veber
(1937 -     )
Biography from Baseline's Encyclopedia of Film

Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. Former journalist who scripted a number of fine comedies for the likes of Yves Robert (THE TALL BLOND MAN WITH ONE BLACK SHOE, 1972) and Edouard Molinaro (A PAIN IN THE A..., 1974) before making his own directing debut with LE JOUET / THE TOY (1976). Veber's infectious comedies -- including three pairings of Pierre Richard and Gérard Depardieu (LA CHÈVRE, 1982/THE GOAT, LES COMPÈRES, 1984, LES FUGITIFS, 1986) -- proved so successful in his native France that several of his films have been remade in Hollywood. Veber made his US directing debut with one of these, THREE FUGITIVES (1989).

Recent writing and directing credits include MY FATHER THE HERO (1994), FANTÔME AVEC CHAUFFEUR / GHOST WITH DRIVER and LE JAGUAR (1996), FATHER'S DAY (1997, from his 1983 film LES COMPÉRES), DEAD LETTER OFFICE and LE DÎNER DE CONS / THE DINNER GAME (both 1998), LE PLACARD / THE CLOSET (2001), TAIS-TOI! / SHUT UP! (2003) and LA BOUBLURE / THE VALET (2006).
