Documentary filmmaker who worked as a writer, director, editor and occasional producer with the National Film Board of Canada from 1975 until 1996. Writing/directing credits inlcude WATER: THE HAZARDOUS NECESSITY (1977), SOME CALL IT PROGRESS, EXPLODING CITIES and DEVELOPMENT WITHOUT TEARS (all 1978), NO FITTING HABITAT (1979), LITTLE BY LITTLE: UPRGRADING BARRIO ESCOPA (1980), and THE SPACE BETWEEN, A LONG WAY FROM HOME and KEEPING THE ELEPHANTS AWAY (all 1986).
Viljoen co-authored The Defence of Canada: In the Arms of the Empire (1990) with journalist and historian Gwynne Dyer.
