Jerry Wexler
(1917 - 2008)

Born in The Bronx, New York City. Record producer who created the term "rhythm and blues" and former recording industry executive who was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 under the category "Non-Performer." His film credits are THE WIZ and PRETTY BABY (both 1978), THE COTTON CLUB (1984) and JO JO DANCER, YOUR LIFE IS CALLING (1986). Wexler wrote the lyric to Aretha Franklin's hit song "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", which has been used in many films. Wexler was nominated for an Oscar for his score of Louis Malle's controversial PRETTY BABY (1978). Songs written by Wexler appear on the soundtracks of numerous films including SIM0NE, MICHAEL, DEAD PRESIDENTS, SCENES FROM THE CLASS STRUGGLE IN BEVERLY HILLS, ACTION JACKSON, PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES, ANGEL HEART and THE BIG CHILL.
