Young has had the unique distinction of being nominated for three Academy Awards® for documentary short subjects. Two of his other films were selected by the Academy as outstanding documentaries of the year. In addition, he was Director/Cameraman on many foreign segments for the Peabody and Emmy® Award winning international children's television series "Big Blue Marble" as well as being awarded a National Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Young has also been the Grand Prix winner twice at the U.S. Industrial Film Festival (the only filmmaker so honored), winner of four Gold Hugos at the Chicago Int'l Film Festival and Grand Prize winner at the Int'l Film and TV Festival of NY.

Earlier, he was recognized as one of the finest young filmmakers in the U.S. by Life Magazine, being the first filmmaker ever put under contract by that organization. He has worked on film projects all over the world, made films in numerous languages and has won virtually every major film award in his field. His films have appeared in theaters and on network television here and abroad. Young also lectures at various colleges on filmmaking.
