Born Norma Aleandro Robledo in Buenos Aires, Argentina; daughter of actors Pedro Aleandro (1910-1985) and María Louisa Robledo (1912-2005). Distinguished South American stage talent (actress, playwright, director) and TV performer who gained international recogniton, including being named best actress at Cannes, for her riveting performance in the Oscar®-winning LA HISTORIA OFICIAL / THE OFFICIAL STORY (1985).
Aleandro was quite up-front about her liberal political views and, during the late 1970s, was exiled to Uruguay. Later she moved to Spain and did not return to Argentina until after the fall of the military junta in 1982. In 1996, she starred on stage as Maria Callas in Master Class and won the Maria Guerrero Award. That same year, she was honored as Ciudadano Ilustre de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires ("Illustrious Citizen of the City of Buenos Aires"). Aleandro was married to actor Oscar Ferrigno (d. 1986); their son, Oscar Ferrigno Jr., is also an actor.
