John Bettis

He wrote the theme for the TV series "Growing Pains" (1985) and songs for OH, GOD! YOU DEVIL (1984). His songs have been recorded by .38 Special, Chubby Checker, Peabo Bryson, Grover Washington, Jr. and Barry Manilow. He collaborated with college friend Richard Carpenter on many of the Carpenters songs: "Top of the World," "I Need to Be in Love," "Yesterday Once More," "Goodbye to Love," "Crystal Lullaby," "Look to Your Dreams," et al.

He was Chairman of the Board of the National Academy of Songwriters (1986-87) and was elected to the Board of ASCAP in 1995. He shared a 2000/2001 Daytime Emmy® for Best Original Song for "Where There Is Hope," written for CBS's "Guiding Light."
