As Executive Producer of the NFB's Documentary East studio since 1997, Sally Bochner oversees production of National Film Board documentaries from filmmakers across Québec and Atlantic Canada. Recent films from Documentary East include the acclaimed Igloolik Isuma/NFB feature ATANARJUAT - THE FAST RUNNER (2001), winner of the Golden Camera Prize at the Cannes Film Festival; as well as WESTRAY, a moving account of the Westray coal mine disaster. Other Bochner credits include such multi-award-winning Documentary East releases as CINÉMA VERITÉ: DEFINING THE MOMENT (1999), named Best Canadian Feature at the Montréal International Festival of New Cinema and New Media; and LOYALTIES, winner of the Canada Award at the Geminis and Best Social Issue Documentary at the Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival. New and upcoming titles include VIEW FROM THE SUMMIT, taking us inside the Summit of the Americas in Québec City, and TOMMY... A FAMILY PORTRAIT, a tribute to the late Newfoundland comic genius Tommy Sexton. Bochner's production career with the NFB began in 1986, when she was co-writer and associate producer on John N. Smith's acclaimed feature TRAIN OF DREAMS (1987). She then went on to associate produce and co-write Cynthia Scott's acclaimed COMPANY OF STRANGERS (1990) and since then has produced or co-produced over fifty films.
